Hull City's Matt Crooks and Aston Villa's Matty Cash are set to miss crucial matches due to yellow card suspensions. This comes after both players received their fifth yellow cards in the ongoing Premier League season.
Hull City's Matt Crooks and Aston Villa's Matty Cash have been handed one-match suspensions for accumulating five yellow cards in the 2025-26 Premier League season. Crooks will miss Hull's upcoming trip to Arsenal, while Cash will be sidelined for Villa's match against Manchester United.
The yellow card suspension rule states that players receive a one-match ban if they reach five yellow cards before their team's 19th league match. Following this threshold, the limit increases to ten yellow cards, at which point a player would face a two-match suspension if they accumulate that many before their club's 32nd match.
Currently, six other players are at risk of receiving similar suspensions, as they sit on four yellow cards after nine matches. These players must avoid further bookings to escape a ban before the halfway mark of the season. If they reach the ten-card threshold later on, they will face additional penalties.
In the Championship and lower leagues, the rules are somewhat similar, but players must avoid ten yellow cards before the end of their 37th match to avoid a two-match suspension. The yellow card count resets at the end of the season in these divisions, unlike in the Premier League.
