EloElo, the Indian microdrama platform, has successfully raised $80 million in Series C funding, led by NBCUniversal and Hornbill Capital, as it aims to tap into the growing appetite for serialized content in India.
In a significant move for the Indian entertainment landscape, EloElo has raised $80 million in its Series C funding round, led by NBCUniversal and Hornbill Capital. This investment reflects the rising popularity of microdramas in the country, with EloElo's Story TV app emerging as a frontrunner in the space, boasting over 33 million monthly active users.
The microdrama format has gained traction across India, with more than 118 million users engaging with serialized content monthly. This trend aligns with a broader global shift towards mobile-first entertainment, where users prefer consuming content in shorter, more digestible formats. Analysts predict that India's microdrama industry could generate annual revenues of $3-$4 billion by 2030, highlighting the market potential for platforms like EloElo.
Founded in 2020 by Saurabh Pandey, a former executive at Flipkart, EloElo's Story TV offers over 5,000 titles in six different languages. The platform capitalizes on the trend of snackable content, with users averaging 95 minutes of engagement daily through multiple sessions. Pandey notes that the future of content consumption will likely hinge on mobile devices, moving away from traditional television viewing.
As competition intensifies with established platforms like YouTube and TikTok, EloElo aims to carve out its niche in the microdrama sector. The funding will enable the company to enhance its offerings and attract even more viewers eager for serialized storytelling designed specifically for mobile consumption. With the recent influx of capital, EloElo is well-positioned to lead the charge in India's burgeoning microdrama market.
